Call 999 from a mobile
If prompted, press 55 to Make Yourself Heard and this will transfer your call to the police.
Pressing 55 only works on mobiles and does not allow police to track your location.
Call 999 from a landline
If the operator can only hear background noise and cannot decide whether an emergency service is needed, you will be connected to a police call handler.
If you replace the handset, the landline may remain connected for 45 seconds in case you pick up again.
When 999 calls are made from landlines, information about your location should be automatically available to the call handlers to help provide a response.
If you are deaf or can’t verbally communicate
You can register with the emergencySMS service. Text REGISTER to 999. You will get a text which tells you what to do next. Do this when it is safe so you can text when you are in danger.

NCC have launched a campaign to protect children during lockdown.
The county-wide campaign is called:
See Something, Hear Something, Say Something
The campaign encourages neighbours, extended family, those working to provide essential services and volunteers to look out for Norfolk’s children.
It asks communities, while the majority of schools, nurseries and colleges are currently closed and pressure at home may
be greater, to watch out for signs a child may not be safe and is backed by the Norfolk Safeguarding Children Partnership.
These signs may include:
- aggressive or repeated shouting
- hearing hitting or things being broken
- children crying for long periods of time
- very young children left alone or outdoors by themselves
Anyone with concerns about a child or family, should contact the County Council on 0344 800 8020
In an emergency contact the police on 999. In a non-emergency the police can be contacted on 101.
Any children that need help can also call Childline on 0800 1111.

Every Local Authority in the country has to have a Multi-Agency Safeguarding Agreement (MASA) in partnership with the Police and Health.
In Norfolk, the Norfolk Safeguarding Children Partnership (NSCP) is led by the 3 statutory partners who work together with other local agencies including the voluntary sector to make sure that children are protected from harm and that their welfare is promoted. The NSCP has robust independent scrutiny arrangements to ensure that people working with children carry out their safeguarding responsibilities as required by the law.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) has set up a 24/7 helpline offering immediate support for mental health difficulties during the coronavirus pandemic.
The freephone number, which is staffed by mental health professionals from the Trust, will provide reassurance, self-help advice, support and signposting designed to prevent people from going to the region’s emergency departments (EDs) during the crisis.
It is available to members of the public of any age, regardless of whether they are an existing NSFT service user. The line is also open to other healthcare professionals, such as ambulance staff and GPs, as well as social care colleagues and police personnel who may need advice when working with individuals who are undergoing mental health difficulties or may wish to refer someone.

Child sexual exploitation is a type of sexual abuse. When a child or young person is exploited they're given things, like gifts, drugs, money, status and affection, in exchange for performing sexual activities. CSE can happen in person or online.
Children and young people are often tricked into believing they're in a loving and consensual relationship. This is called grooming. They may trust their abuser and not understand that they're being abused.

Colman Federation is working in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Children’s Services to identify and provide appropriate support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their household.
Operation Encompass provides an efficient, confidential channel of communication between police forces and Key Adults within the Federation. Criminal exploitation often occurs without the child's immediate recognition, with the child believing that they are in control of the situation. In all cases, those exploiting the child/young person have power over them by virtue of their age, gender, intellect, physical strength and/ or economic or other resources.
The Children’s Society are working with the police and other organisations, to stop county lines activity and recognise the young people that have been exploited by criminal gangs as victims, not criminals.
